5 Things to See and Do in Florence, Italy

22/02/2021

Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. It is also the capital of Tuscany, a region located in central Italy.
The city is densely populated and offers a lot of scenic locations and attractions that draw tourists throughout the year. It also has some of the most exquisite architecture that takes you back to the historical era. It is considered to be the birthplace of Renaissance art and famous political thinkers like Machiavelli, who is buried there. The economy of this beautiful city relies on the tourism industry.

If you are visiting the port in Florence, you can visit Pisa and Bologna through the well-developed rail network, these being some of the most famous destinations in this region of Italy. Each building and historical structure takes you a lot closer to the culture and traditions of the country.
There are a number of things that one can do in Florence, as a lot of activities are offered to the tourists in order to make sure that the economy is well-maintained. Florence will not disappoint if you are planning to go there during your next trip to Italy.

If you wish to explore how the medieval days were in Florence, then a walk across the Ponte Vecchio should be on your list.

It is one of the oldest bridges that still stands in Italy, constructed back in 1345. The majority of the bridges that used to exist in Italy were destroyed during World War II. The bridge lies on the Arno River and many tourists visit in order to explore and experience its rich history.
Furthermore, the bridge is surrounded by a number of shops that have mainly gold and silver jewelry. If you are planning to get souvenirs for your loved ones, you might find some special Italian pieces there.

2. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore

One of the most beautiful and celebrated cathedrals in the world is The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It is one of a kind and many people consider it the jewel of the city.

The structure was completed in 1436, but the front façade was added during the 19th century. The cathedral was completed over a period of 140 years. It is a stunning historical building right in the heart of Florence.
People from across the globe visit the cathedral to purify their hearts. The architecture, design, color, and style of the building is not only unique, but also stunning in its own right. Many people tried to copy its design and structure, however most of them failed to achieve anything that is even close to it.

Many tourists are fascinated by its interior as well, as the grandeur of it is unmatched.
3. Uffizi Gallery

Uffizi Gallery is considered to be one of the most important museums that exists in the world today. The interior of the museum is quite intricate as beautiful columns and arches still stand. It also houses enormous marble statues. People who were inspired by Renaissance Art can find extensive collections from artists like Raphael, Botticelli, and Titian.

You should plan for lots of time here, as the gallery has more than 100,000 unique drawings and prints alone.

4. Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Della Signoria

Piazza Della Signoria (Signoria Square) is famously known for the Fountain of Neptune that stands within it. The fountain was commissioned in 1559, and took almost 300 years to complete after being damaged by the bombardments that took place in that era.
Initially, the fountain was used for laundry and washing dishes as well as a central place to market goods.
The fountain was built with two different materials, and no one ever thought that it would be converted into a fountain. The upper portion is made of stone, whereas the bottom is made of marble.
The imagery of the fountain is quite vivid as one can see the god of the sea, Neptune, fighting with the sea nymphs and an octopus.
5. Shopping and Dining

One cannot complete their tour without going shopping. After all, it will help help keep your memories alive for all the places you’ve seen.
The souvenirs or famous ornaments sold in Florence will remind you of your trip for years to come. Florence has some of the most beautiful shops, offering a wide variety of products to its tourists.
You’ll be able to find not only souvenirs of gold and silver jewelry, but also leather goods and fine art pieces. One can also find local delicacies at eatery shops throughout Florence to bring back for friends and family.
If you are visiting Italy, then trying out the country’s specialties like pizza and its wide range of pastas should be on your list without a doubt. After all, you need something to fuel your energy for all the sightseeing you’re inevitably doing!
The streets of Italy have numerous venues offering their take on the classic dishes in their own distinct way. The food is enough to tantalize your taste buds and help make your time in Florence the best it can possibly be.
