The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has selected the offer presented by Baleària for the construction and management of the new public passenger terminal in the Port of València.
This infrastructure will be located between the Poniente Quay and the Espigón del Turia Quay, in the area previously occupied by the Unión Naval de Valencia shipyard. The terminal will occupy approximately 100,000 m2 and its concession will be granted for a period of 35 years, extendable to a maximum of 50 years.
The selected proposal has received a very positive evaluation of 93 points out of 100. The Board of Directors of the PAV has stressed that the project “will be an accessible, sustainable and intelligent infrastructure, at the service of the city, as stated in the requirements published in the tender documents”.
The proposal by the Baleària shipping company guarantees that 100% of the electrical energy required for the operation of the terminal will be produced at the facilities themselves and will be of renewable origin. According to the project presented to the PAV tender, the passenger station will operate with zero contaminating emissions and will be committed to the circular economy.
The new terminal, destined as much for regular ferry lines as for cruise ships, has been designed to become a reference of sustainability in the environment of the port of Valencia and to generate added value to the seafront.
In this sense, the President of the PAV, Aurelio Martínez, emphasised “that the project of the new passenger terminal is committed to all the environmental facets. It is committed to a notable reduction in noise, as all the berthing lines will be technically equipped to provide electrical connections to the ships at berth, thus facilitating the stopping of their engines and emissions when they are visiting València”.
The terminal will recycle 100% of the waste it generates in a biomethane plant that will be built specifically for this purpose; and it will treat the waste from the ships and the building itself to obtain biogas. For Martínez, the new terminal will be “state-of-the-art, absolutely exemplary at an international level and a reference point for the sector”.
The interior design of the station will guarantee the independent operation of the cruise passengers and the passengers of regular lines. And among other novelties of the project, the planned development of an Innovation and Eco-efficiency Centre and a space for cultural dynamization stand out.
